PASSAGE SOUTERRAIN, 2005-2012
THANKSThe adventure of the Passage Souterrain comes to an end. After seven years and thirteen artistic interventions, the city of Paris finally eliminated the underground pedestrian way that held the specific and ephimerous interventions to replace it for a traffic light.
The double intention of taking advantage of the economic limitations –the precarious state of the arts- developing a quality program with mayor artist; and playing with the contradictory idea of practicing a public and free exhibition to dwell in the intimacy, the dialogue between the artists and this no-place –confronting the social noise intrinsic to the contemporary society- were the core of this project.
During all this seven years, the ephimerous profile of the works faced the speculative measure of art, and the avoidance to make public the existence of the project through the media matched perfectly the political and ethic engagement of the artists that had participated. To explore the freedom of the margins has been the modus operandi that allowed the respect of this transparent bunker, this underground trench.
Obviously, the Passage Souterrain wouldn't be possible without the absolute passion, the radical generosity of the participant artists : Teresa Margolles, Fernando Sánchez Castillo, Jorge Moreno Diezma, PSJM, Pepo Salazar, Rubén Santiago, Santiago Sierra, Jose Alfredo Elías, Josechu Dávila Buitrón, Antonio de la Rosa, Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa, Miquel Mont y Abraham Cruzvillegas.
They all understood and interpreted in a free and clear manner the spirit of this peculiar space. And they are responsible of revealing the intense beauty of this passage, its personality, beyond time. To them, therefore, my deepest gratitude.

GRACIAS
La aventura del Passage Souterrain llega a su fin. Tras siete años y trece intervenciones artísticas, el ayuntamiento de París ha iniciado el proceso de destruccion, para sustituirlo por un semáforo, de este pasaje peatonal que acogía las creaciones plásticas, efímeras y especificas que han dado forma y vida al proyecto.
La doble intención de aprovechar las limitaciones económicas –subvertir la precariedad del sistema artístico- desarrollando un programa de calidad con artistas de gran peso, así como la contradictoria voluntad de utilizar la exposición publica y libre –natural a un uso « ilegal » del espacio urbano- para deleitarse en la intimidad, en el diálogo entre este no-lugar, el artista y la obra realizada -enfrentándose así al ruido exterior característico del sistema social contemporáneo-, se sitúan en el corazón de este proyecto.
Durante el tiempo que el Passage Souterrain se ha mantenido en activo, el carácter efímero de las obras se alzó contra la tasación especulativa del arte, y la renuncia a hacer público a través de los medios de comunicación el devenir de las intervenciones y su resultado casaron perfectamente con el compromiso político y ético, el espíritu critico que la gran mayoría de los artistas mantiene en su devenir creativo. Explotar la libertad de los márgenes, en definitiva, ha sido en todo momento el modus operandi que ha permitido respetar el espíritu de este búnker transparente, de esta trinchera subterránea.
Evidentemente, el Passage Souterrain no hubiese sido posible sin la pasión absoluta, desprendida y radicalmente generosa de los artistas participantes: Teresa Margolles, Fernando Sánchez Castillo, Jorge Moreno Diezma, PSJM, Pepo Salazar, Rubén Santiago, Santiago Sierra, Jose Alfredo Elías, Josechu Dávila Buitrón, Antonio de la Rosa, Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa, Miquel Mont y Abraham Cruzvillegas.
Ellos comprendieron e interpretaron de manera libre y preclara el espíritu de este peculiar espacio. Y ellos son los responsables de haber revelado la intensa belleza de este pasaje peatonal, su personalidad, mas allá del tiempo. Para ellos, pues, mi gratitud mas profunda.
